In the spring I was approached to do a fun beverage program for a little place called Dylan's Candy Bar. Dylan Lauren the daughter the of Ralph Lauren is the CANDY QUEEN behind the brand. The flagship location right here in heart of NYC on 60th and Lexington, with other locations such as Downtown Chicago and Miami.
This menu was fun as it had endless direction's one could go to curate an amazing program. My idea there for was to use candy garnishes that paired with great cocktails to create a marriage of experience between the both. So I played with classic like the Paloma pairing that with pink salt and the pink grapefruit wedge sugared gummy. Also doing the pup style old fashion, muddling in orange candies and cherries as another example. With a wide range of spirits from Michters Bourbon, Ritten House Rye to Avua Cachaça, Below are some examples of the cocktails you can find at the CANDY BAR.
Tales of the Cocktail® produced by the New Orleans Culinary & Cultural Preservation Society , a non-profit organization committed to supporting, the cocktail industry in New Orleans and around the world. Full of a variety of events, seminars, contests, brands and industry friends. Below is a little taste of my Tales and a little bit of New Orleans through out my adventures during the week.
The first annual Cava Competition hostess by CitySip happened this past tuesday on the 9th at Leyenda who's sponsor was Palm Bay International. This competition was one of the most fun and challenging competitions I've had the pleasure of participating. Having to enter one cocktail is challenging as is, but two is a lot to think about. I had the pleasure of pulling los amantes mescal reposado, who's smoke and distinct vanilla and citrus undertones are beautiful and complex. Then also a control spirit that everyone was to use is Don Zoilo Amontillado Sherry and Pera Ventura Cava.
The idea behind my Sherry Cava cocktail " Reuniting with Charlotte" was to create something that was classic and elegant. The Don Zoilo Amontillado Sherry was a very interesting spirit in the fact that unlike other Amontillado sherry's this had a strong acidity and lacked a sweetness and roundness that I'm familiar with in most Amontillado's. I decided to use two rum's and a small amount of caramelized cinnamon infused Demerara sugar, and saline solution to round out the favors of citrus.
Reuniting with Charlotte
- 75oz Sherry
- .25oz Blackwell Rum
- .25oz santa teresa rum
- .25oz caramelized demarera Cinnamon
- 4 dashes Saline solution
- Top/ Cava
- Coupette glass- Orange zest discarded- garnish Nasturtium Orange edible flower
My Los Amantes Reposado Cava "Caring for Lantana" cocktail ending up becoming a more complex cocktail then that of the sherry. The Reposado Mezcal was beautiful, green and smokey with undertones of vanilla. I wanted this cocktail to be tight, small and earth, yet very stunning. while on my way to work one day, I wanted to grab a quick juice , as entered a women walked out with a flower in her hair and a beet red juice in her hand. In that instance It hit me to do a beet, agave cocktail. I keep the cocktail tight In a nick and Nora glass and didn't let any ingredients take over anything else with out adding to the others.
In cases your FOMO is getting the best of you. Every Sunday I work at the Edition I like to put together a special throw back to differnt Classic Cocktail. Yesterday, this was the Ramos Gin Fizz. I had the pleasure of enjoying one of the most AMAZING (this word understates how delicious it was) Ramos Gin Fizz made by Zane Harris over at Asia De Cuba's new home, in the Old Butter space on Lafayette. So envious of course of Zanes skill's spent my lovely afternoon with a dozen egg's, a half gallon of cream and a whole bunch of gin. I felt like a shake weight champ by the end of my shift! 💪🏼
This classic cocktail was created by Henry C. Ramos in 1888, in his bar in New Orleans, it was originally called a "New Orleans Fizz." The Ramos brothers would hire a couple dozen "shaker boys" to shake up these labor intensive cocktails. The drink was so popular that even the "shaker boys" couldn't keep up with the demand. Over time the idea of a quality drink was replaced by a fast drink and the Ramos Gin Fizz slowly faded away.
So As you all wallow in your FOMO, enjoy the photos and maybe next Sunday you won't miss out.
This last year has been a whirl wind of change and accomplishment. Entering USBG World Class competition was my first step towards growing and learning in an industry that I have always loved. I have always been filled with a fear of fully committing to things, overwhelmed with the idea of failure. This competition has shone a light in a whole world of growth and learning. I am blessed to have been apart of it and am excited for the year to come.
Here I am clutching on to summer, as I wearing my shorts and tank top.
Last night, the perfect night . Standing on the corner of 81st and Central Park West, a cool breeze chilled my face. The smell of dank leaves and wet wood intoxicated my body, and in that moment summer was lost to the euphoria of fall. A love lust ended in one fell swoop, and all those memories of perfect autumn days and nights come back like a long lost lover.
Tu es ma joie de vivre.
I had almost forgotten how much joy fall brings to my heart and soul.
The summer ends
And we wonder who we are
And there you go, my friends
With your boxes in your car
End of the Summer -Dar Williams
I usually work most weekend night's, so I never have to worry about dressing up to go out for drinks very often. But when I do I like to keep it very simple. Black and White is very classic and simple so wearing very big blingy accessories can always make it fun.
The perfect plaid ensemble.
I work at this amazing place called American Whiskey. And during the summer it was fun to be able to mix it up, alternating plaid with the classic liquor brand shirt. Now that fall is back in full swing it's plaid on plaid time. When you have a uniform at any place you work, you need to make it your own and have fun with it. The classic plaid flannel is always a great go to but this season the plaid pattern has really taken over. So this sheer plaid button down is great for the transition into the classic flannel as the season is starting to turn over. So needless to say you'll be seeing a lot of plaid coming soon. #perfectplaid #thatbleachedblonde
I know most people don't start reflecting on the year that have past until right before New Years. But I start doing this right around the the week before my birthday. I always keep list of things I should accomplish weekly and monthly. But with a birthday coming I reassess all my goal that I set the previous year. I try not to get to discouraged as most are left unattained. For some of those I have accomplished weren't as rewarding as I thought would be. As this year has been one of the mostly challenging, both physically and emotionally. So as the 7 day count down starts to my Birthday. This next years goals aren't so much about moving forward or achieving some great goal. It mostly to stand still and be where I am and make the most and the best of where I am. Build a foundation so that I can build upwards and not so much forward.

I've always like to do different and interesting things with my hair. And when I went into the salon on saturday it was "lets dye it hair purple". I have been in love with Kelly Osbourne hair since the first day it turner violet. Secretly obsessed I held back, keeping myself under control keeping my hair blonde. But when Nicole Richie's hair went purple, I could no longer contain the itch. So here we are first week with purple hair. And now I'm turning the heads of all 8 year old children in the park, as they pointing and telling all their friends to look.
I'm kinda obsessed and scared it might never go back to blonde. It's only hair.
Some people might think I'm annoying harping on the all the little thing in life.
"But It’s the little things that make us who we are in the bigger world."
I love going to the Natural History Museum, it remind me that I am still a child at heart. Who doesn't love Dinosaurs?! When I was little I would bury my toy Dinosaurs in the backyard. Then dig them up, pretending I was a Paleontologist.
So on free day I'll just throw on sneakers, shorts and vintage tee. Layer it with a light blazer and I'm out the door and on the cross town bus headed to the museum.
Ice: You up for this one Maverick?
Maverick: Just a walk in the park Kazanski.
Just a little walk in the park.
Comfortable clothes and camera in hand.
Sunday's has to be the worst day to play catch up on cultural museum visits. But with only two weekends left to catch the 2014 Biennial (which closes on May 25). I threw on my nikes and dealt with a few tourist. I don't want to ruin the show for you, but you can see a few of my favorites here.
I mean if I could, I would just wash my face in the morning and leave my apartment. But truth is, I fix my makeup before I go to the gym. Shameful I know, but perfection in a #gymselfien is a must. (don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about)Read More
