Elixir Bar and Grill

by Shannon Stiggins

Wow! Time has flown by.

Life has been extra crazy with all these opening's.  So much has happened that I have not had anytime to take it all in. So I'm just going to pick up where we all last we all left off.

Back in March I travelled out west with Blank Slate Group for a nine week opening of V Palmsprings. Our opening day collied with the first day of Coachella, which was insane to say the least. We champed our way through all the craziness hosted some amazing parties, and put together a great Pool venue called Elixir Bar and Grill.  Elixir food menu  hosts a selection of Asian-Fusion with spins on classic concept. Along side a Modernized-Tiki cocktail menu the style of which I call Tiki-Tropical. The cocktails have all fresh ingredient's focused on layered flavors from bold spirits and raw sugar from the juices in them.

One the signature cocktails on our Menu is...

In Love with the Cacao

1 1/2oz Solbeso , 1/2oz Cointrou, 1/2oz Cherry herring, 1.oz  pineapple, lime and Coconut cream

Whip shake with a hand full of crushed ice- pour over crushed ice, garnish with mint spring and grated nutmeg.

Coconut cream large batch recipe : 60 oz coco lopez, 24 oz coconut milk and 4 oz lime juice

Holiday's spent with family is great and all, but sometime it's nice to escape! My boyfriend Greg decided that Paris and London would be the best place to get away. The trip was full of booze, food and tons of friends. Below are some photo's from our trip.

This time I went to Chicago

by Shannon Stiggins

OH HEY! SORRY... I've been MIA for a while! It's been a busy end of summer and crazy going into the Fall. Now that this launch of the cocktail program at The Edition hotel is over it's time to catch you all up on what you've missed.

Back in May I was in Chicago for the opening and training of the staff for Dylan Lauren's : Dylan's Candy Bar. While on my work trip I had the best time visiting some of the most amazing places. Chicago's food and beverage scene is above and beyond any expectation I'd ever imagined.  A city full of such diversity, all mixing and melting into every bar you walk into. It's amazing how great the hospitality is in this city, by far one of the best trips I ever had spent alone. At the end of it I wasn't alone, I left with a how new crew of Chicago Friends!

Below you can see a little bits of my Travels to all these wonderful gems. (Lost Lake, Three-Dots & Dash, Sportsmans Club, Big Star, La Sirena Clandestina and The Aviary)

First Annual Cava Competition.

by Shannon Stiggins

The first annual Cava Competition hostess by CitySip happened this past tuesday on the 9th at Leyenda who's sponsor was Palm Bay International. This competition was one of the most fun and challenging competitions I've had the pleasure of participating. Having to enter one cocktail is challenging as is, but two is a lot to think about. I had the pleasure of pulling los amantes mescal reposado, who's smoke and distinct vanilla and citrus undertones are beautiful and complex.  Then also a control spirit that everyone was to use is Don Zoilo Amontillado Sherry and Pera Ventura Cava.

The idea behind my Sherry Cava cocktail " Reuniting with Charlotte"  was to create something that was classic and elegant. The Don Zoilo Amontillado Sherry was a very interesting spirit in the fact that unlike other Amontillado sherry's this had a strong acidity and lacked a sweetness and roundness that I'm familiar with in most Amontillado's. I decided to use two rum's and a small amount of caramelized cinnamon infused Demerara sugar, and saline solution to round out the favors of citrus.

The Name Reuniting with Charlotte come from the TV show Frasier, Frasier is know to frequently play his piano causally drinking Sherry. Charlotte was Frasier lost love interest, where a series ends with his plane landing in Chicago, with hopes  to "reunite with Charlotte"

Los Amantes is a Mezcal that is produced of 100% Agave that originates in Oaxaca, Mexico. The name "Caring for Lantana" comes from the same idea, Lantana is a flower that grows in the region as well.

My Los Amantes Reposado Cava "Caring for Lantana" cocktail ending up becoming a more complex cocktail then that of the sherry. The Reposado Mezcal was beautiful, green and smokey with undertones of vanilla. I wanted this cocktail to be tight, small and earth, yet very stunning. while on my way to work one day, I wanted to grab a quick juice , as entered a women walked out with a flower in her hair and a beet red juice in her hand. In that instance It hit me to do a beet, agave cocktail. I keep the cocktail tight In a nick and Nora glass and didn't let any ingredients take over anything else with out adding to the others.

Sunday's Ramos Arm Workout.

by Shannon Stiggins

In cases your FOMO is getting the best of you.  Every Sunday I work at the Edition I like to put together a special throw back to differnt Classic Cocktail.  Yesterday, this was the Ramos Gin Fizz. I had the pleasure of enjoying one of the most AMAZING (this word understates how delicious it was) Ramos Gin Fizz made by Zane Harris over at Asia De Cuba's new home, in the Old Butter space on Lafayette. So envious of course of Zanes skill's spent my lovely afternoon with a dozen egg's, a half gallon of cream and a whole bunch of gin. I felt like a shake weight champ by the end of my shift! 💪🏼

This classic cocktail was created by Henry C. Ramos in 1888, in his bar in New Orleans, it was originally called a "New Orleans Fizz." The Ramos brothers would hire a couple dozen "shaker boys" to shake up these labor intensive cocktails. The drink was so popular that even the "shaker boys" couldn't keep up with the demand. Over time the idea of a quality drink was replaced by a fast drink and the Ramos Gin Fizz slowly faded away.

So As you all wallow in  your FOMO, enjoy the photos and maybe next Sunday you won't miss out.

In Philly the World Class Regional Finals

by Shannon Stiggins

This last year has been a whirl wind of change and accomplishment. Entering USBG World Class competition was my first step towards growing and learning in an industry that I have always loved. I have always been filled with a fear of fully committing to things, overwhelmed with the idea of failure. This competition has shone a light in a whole world of growth and learning. I am blessed to have been apart of it and am excited for the year to come.

"We have to get a move on" Its just that time of year ... #summerends

by Shannon Stiggins

Here I am clutching on to summer, as I wearing my shorts and tank top.

Last night, the perfect night .  Standing on the corner of 81st and Central Park West, a cool breeze chilled my face. The smell of dank leaves and wet wood intoxicated my body, and in that moment summer was lost to the euphoria of fall.  A love lust ended in one fell swoop, and all those memories of perfect autumn days and nights come back like a long lost lover.

Tu es ma joie de vivre.

I had almost forgotten how much joy fall brings to my heart and soul.

The summer ends
And we wonder who we are
And there you go, my friends
With your boxes in your car

End of the Summer -Dar Williams

Black and white boy, You’re so extreme.

by Shannon Stiggins

I usually work most weekend night's, so I never have to worry about dressing up to go out for drinks very often.  But when I do I like to keep it very simple. Black and White is very classic and simple so wearing very big blingy accessories can always make it fun.

Looking so fly, making all the haters mad. I got plaid on the top #perfectplaid

by Shannon Stiggins

The perfect plaid ensemble.

I work at this amazing place called American Whiskey. And during the summer it was fun to be able to mix it up, alternating plaid with the classic liquor brand shirt.  Now that fall is back in full swing it's plaid on plaid time. When you have a uniform at any place you work, you need to make it your own and have fun with it. The classic plaid flannel is always a great go to but this season the plaid pattern has really taken over. So this sheer plaid button down is great for the transition into the classic flannel as the season is starting to turn over. So needless to say you'll be seeing a lot of plaid coming soon.  #perfectplaid #thatbleachedblonde

One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others.

by Shannon Stiggins

I know most people don't start reflecting on the year that have past until right before New Years.  But I start doing this right around the the week before my birthday.  I always keep list of things I should accomplish weekly and monthly. But with a birthday coming I reassess all my goal that I set the previous year. I try not to get to discouraged as most are left unattained. For some of those I have accomplished weren't as rewarding as I thought would be.  As this year has been one of the mostly challenging, both physically and emotionally.  So as the 7 day count down starts to my Birthday.  This next years goals aren't so much about moving forward or achieving some great goal. It mostly to stand still and be where I am and make the most and the best of where I am. Build a foundation so that I can build upwards and not so much forward.

Yah Know, Get comfortable in the shoes Per se.

Like as comfortable I am in these flat leather slides below.

Once again, the Great and Powerful Trixie has proven herself to be the most amazing unicorn in all of Equestria. Was there ever any doubt? #purplehair

by Shannon Stiggins

Come one, come all! Come and witness the amazing magic of the Great and Powerful Trixie!

I've always like to do different and interesting things with my hair.  And when I went into the salon on saturday it was "lets dye it hair purple". I have been in love with Kelly Osbourne hair since the first day it turner violet. Secretly obsessed I held back, keeping myself under control keeping my hair blonde. But when Nicole Richie's hair went purple, I could no longer contain the itch. So here we are first week with purple hair. And now I'm turning the heads of all 8 year old children in the park, as they pointing and telling all their friends to look.

I'm kinda obsessed and scared it might never go back to blonde. It's only hair.

Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth... #naturalhistory

by Shannon Stiggins

I love going to the Natural History Museum, it remind me that I am still a child at heart.  Who doesn't love Dinosaurs?!  When I was little I would bury my toy Dinosaurs in the backyard. Then dig them up, pretending I was a Paleontologist.

So on free day I'll just throw on sneakers, shorts and vintage tee. Layer it with a light blazer and I'm out the door and on the cross town bus headed to the museum.
